Conditions over the weekend weren’t too great due to the wind which caused crashes from every angle. But that didn’t dampen the spirits of the arsenal that the boat club had to offer.xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Starting on the junior side the J15’s raced in their new crew places for this race. In the coxed quad Matthew Pye and Matthew Izatt-Lowry entered in their first race for the school. The crew earned themselves a good run through xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Elvet Bridge and a deserved 2nd place. The double with Edward Lonsdale and Jordan Burnard had a good technical run (Ed head up!) apart from their course through the bridge due to the wind which costs them a huge amount of time. They ended up in 3rd place.
The J14’s had a good run in their combinations. The coxed quad came 4th and the single with Matthew Evans came 3rd in their categories
The Senior Squad went in their different and new combinations on the wear. Despite having a minor clash the coxless quad secured a 2nd place overall.
Four Senior Squad Singles were out on the river as well. Philip Anderson just missing out on a win by 2 seconds, James Pinner securing a win in the J18 category and Tom Edwards who annihilated the Senior 4 opposition by nearly 30 seconds. These are good results that the guys should take confidence from when doing their GB trials on the Saturday 17th November.
The fourth of the Senior Squad Singles was Dan Ciampolillo who won the Novice Singles, beating opposition by 40 seconds.
This weekend was not all about the racing. We gave off a really good impression; that all the crews were switched on and got in and out of the water really efficiently. This is what we need to be doing all the time, to move forward together as a club.
