Boston Marathon

The Boston Marathon was the first challenge for the new season for the senior team. In the new 8+ “Malcolm Richardson” the nine of us took part in the longest race they have ever done. Finishing it in 4 hours and 12 minutes, and the crew coming 7th in the sen2 category, the 8+ was not overtaken by the ambitious coaches doing the double. It was an achievement for all crew members and will be used as a mentality for races to come.

Wear LDS

Conditions over the weekend weren’t too great due to the wind which caused crashes from every angle. But that didn’t dampen the spirits of the arsenal that the boat club had to offer.

Starting on the junior side the J15’s raced in their new crew places for this race. In the coxed quad Matthew Pye and Matthew Izatt-Lowry entered in their first race for the school. The crew earned themselves a good run through

The double with Edward Lonsdale and Jordan Burnard had a good technical run (Ed head up!) apart from their course through the bridge due to the wind which costs them a huge amount of time. They ended up in 3rd place.

The J14’s had a good run in their combinations. The coxed quad came 4th and the single with Matthew Evans came 3rd in their categories

The Senior Squad went in their different and new combinations on the wear. Despite having a minor clash the coxless quad secured a 2nd place overall.

Four Senior Squad Singles were out on the river as well. Philip Anderson just missing out on a win by 2 seconds, James Pinner securing a win in the J18 category and Tom Edwards who annihilated the Senior 4 opposition by nearly 30 seconds. These are good results that the guys should take confidence from when doing their GB trials on the Saturday 17th November.

The fourth of the Senior Squad Singles was Dan Ciampolillo who won the Novice Singles, beating opposition by 40 seconds.

This weekend was not all about the racing. We gave off a really good impression; that all the crews were switched on and got in and out of the water really efficiently. This is what we need to be doing all the time, to move forward together as a club.

Wansbeck LDS

The most successful race of the series so far as 16 students earned a win. The first race for the J15 crew and their first win as well for them. They raced in the “Tommy” in the J15 coxed quad race. The J16’s earned their first top of the table over the weekend as well being the fastest boat of the day. Good racing from Tom Edwards and James Pinner with their attempts at the GB trials. Dan and Sam Ciampolillo won their Sen4 doubles race as well. First shell crew away races as well. This is the start of the learning process for them.

Tyne LDS

Saturday 6th October-Tyne - Girls Captain.

At the Tyne on Saturday D.S.B.C saw more girl’s crews racing than boy’s, and despite there being no wins amongst us, there were a number of impressive results, considering it was the first race of the year, for the girls.

Two Novice quads raced, with Jess Hannah, Caitlin Errington, Charlotte Grossmann and Natalie Carroll at stroke, coxed by Marcus Haworth gaining 3rd place, with a time of 22.23.4. In the same division were Chloe Howarth, Rosie Manners, Jess Graham and Amy Matthews who were being coxed by Jack Deverson, and came 4th. Both crews, having had few training sessions together performed extremely well considering it was the first race for Charlotte and Rosie, and Jess Graham was stepping in to race with an older crew. A woman’s novice double also raced with Isabel Minuth and Kate Dudgeon, who lost by just 8 seconds, to their opponent, finishing the course in 21.58.6.  Although all of the results were good they have left room for improvement, giving the girls the drive to continue their training and getting even better results in the races to come.

Boys Captain -

20 athletes took part in

xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Tyne head to start the new seasons sculling series where results were pleasing. The results were encouraging where all the crews came within the top 10 in each of the categories they were in. The 1st coxless quad “Wearwolf” came in 5th place overall consisting of Sam Ciampolillo, James Pinner, Tom Edwards and Dan Ciampolillo. The J16’s or the 2nd quad in the “Derek Potter” came 8th consisting of Tom Maddick, Josh Tognarelli, Phil Anderson and Matt Smith.
